Alentejo: one of the 52 Places to Go in 2015!

The Alentejo is one of 52 worldwide destinations to visit this year elected by The New York Times - American newspaper, mainly due to wine, food and the starry sky of the region.

In 2014, the Alentejo region hit records for revenues and overnight stays, with the tourist activity in the region generated revenues of around EUR 250 million. The overall income of households in the region (excluding Rural Tourism, Youth Hostels, AL and Campsites) was around 62 million euros, according to the Alentejo Tourism Promotion Agency (ARPTA).

In an article dedicated to the Alentejo, which begins with the questions "Bored with Bordeaux? Tired of Tuscany?", The newspaper presents the region as "alternative to wine and food and wine destinations more internationally recognized" and points the wine, gastronomy and the starry sky as reasons for visiting this year, writes the Lusa agency, by notice sent by ARPTA.

The paper highlights several tourist units of Alentejo, as the Torre de Palma Hotel Wine (Monforte), the Herdades da Malhadinha (Beja) and Comporta (Alcácer do Sal), the "resort" L'AND Vineyards (Montemor-o-Novo ) and the Ecorkhotel (Évora).

In last month's issue of December, the "House & Garden" British magazine in the supplement "Gourmet Travel", also highlighted the Alentejo, in an article titled "A fine vintage".

In 2014, more than 300 international journalists visited the Alentejo by ARPTA invitation, "which resulted in increased visibility of the target and, we believe, was reflected in the results checked tour" that year, says Vitor Silva.

According to ARPTA in 2014, Alentejo hit the record revenue and overnight stays and tourist activity in the region generated revenue of around EUR 250 million.
