Algarve will have direct connection to Italy from 2018

From June 6, 2018, the Algarve receives an air route that will connect Faro to Verona, Italy. Operated by the Volotea company, this will be, until now, the only direct link between the region and the Italian market, which makes this a strategic action for the Algarve
"Italy is a market that has presented interesting growth figures in recent years - in 2016 there were around 108 thousand overnight stays of Italian tourists in the Algarve - so we consider it a bet market and of strategic relevance for the region," explains Dora Coelho, executive director of the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA), quoted in a statement. Following the British, the Nordic and the French, there has been a significant increase in the number of Italian tourists who are choosing the Algarve as a destination for residential tourism, settling in the region to live for part of the year. "The creation of a direct air connection to the Algarve will certainly have an influence on the growth of this trend," he believes.
Also in the 90's, the Italian market already had a very significant relevance for this destination, having received around 20 thousand passengers per year from Italy. However, this operation was interrupted, so the announcement of this new route represents, according to Dora Coelho, "a stimulating challenge for the region, in view of the reconquest of this market."
Already the company Volotea, the Algarve is a destination of "great fascination and tourist attraction", reason for which justifies this new investment. The new route will have a weekly frequency, from June to September, with an offer capacity of 5,400 seats.
